This picture, from the BBC website, clearly shows the extent of Britain’s current wintry conditions. The entire country appears to be covered by a blanket of snow and ice and the newspapers have trawled out the headline ‘The Big Freeze’ for the first time in ages.
My own personal weather map is no less wintry. Just as I was beginning to feel relief after my back joints were realigned by the chiropractor, I have experienced a resurgence of an old ailment. Crohn’s disease is a digestive disorder and one which caused me to have surgery to remove a couple of inches of intestine almost twenty years ago. I knew at the time that the operation would not cure the condition, only eradicate that specific manifestation of it. The intervening years have seen periodic spells of pain and discomfort but nothing like the agony and urgent need for action of that time. Last week my stomach was in such pain that I seriously believed I might need to undergo hospital intervention. I saw my doctor first and he felt that, while things were not great, they might not be as bad as I was fearing. A few days of anti-spasmatic drugs have seemed to calm things down so, fingers crossed he is right and the problem was just intense spasms, rather than serious inflammation. I have asked him to book me in for an endoscopy, so that a clearer picture of what is going on can be attained, but am gingerly hoping that things will continue to calm down. If it has just been spasms in the intestine it is likely that recent other health issues have contributed – I have been so stressed and concerned about everything for so long that the stress may well have caused the tension in the gut.
Not a particularly uplifting blog, then, but sometimes I just have to vent these things. Maybe one of these days I can just ramble on about the bizarre things that cross my mind in more carefree days.

Vent away! That’s what we’re here for. So sorry to hear about your continued struggles. I really hope you get a handle on things soon. You just might be right re: stress and concern going right to your tense gut. Remember: Real Men Do Yoga. Just sayin’.
Oh, and that picture? Amazing. Global colding right before our very eyes.
Great picture isn’t it? As for venting, I’m finding it difficult to know where the line between me venting and me just dragging everyone down with my endless negative fears is. Don;t want to be one of them ‘joy suckers’ now
I’ve never, ever considered YOU a ‘joy sucker!’ Never!
mutter on man.. its good food!
You really are going through a rough patch and I think it’s quite likely that one health issue is intertwined with another. I’m hopeful therefore that your medication will help to put you back on the straight and narrow.
Don’t worry about venting. As far as I’m concerned, people who apparently live in Happy Clappy Land all the time are either lying, deluding themselves or are ‘on’ something!
